On the heels of his 19th Olympic gold medal, news of the American swimmer's net worth has hit the web and according to a report, he's one of the highest paid Olympic athletes.

With a net worth of $55 million, via Celebrity Net Worth, the athlete, who hails from Baltimore, Md. ranks among other Olympic competitors, including Usain Bolt, Serena Williams, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and Neymar Jr.

"The famed Olympic swimmer has an estimated net worth of $55 million. Following the 2008 Olympics, he reportedly earned a $1 million bonus off then-sponsor Speedo. Considering Phelps has held numerous endorsement deals over the years, and even posed for Wheaties, Corn Flakes and Louis Vuitton, it’s likely he’s made millions off his impressive 22-medal Olympic career," Go Banking reported earlier this month.

According to a separate report, via Money Nation, it was revealed that a big chunk of the swimmer's earnings have come from advertisers who have used the athlete to promote their various products.

"Phelps has earned an estimated total of $95.8 million in his life, with $94 million of that coming straight from advertisers," the outlet explained, revealing that taxes have definitely cut in to Phelps' networth substantially.

Meanwhile, another popular U.S. swimmer, Ryan Lochte, is worth just $6 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
