Even in the face of Olympic defeat, love still wins.

The Brazilian women's rugby team found themselves out of the running ahead of the knockout rounds, but for 25-year-old Isadora Cerullo, the sting of defeat was instantly forgotten when her girlfriend, Marjorie Enya, got down on one knee. In the first proposal of the Rio games, the LGBT couple took gold.

"As soon as I knew she was in the squad I thought I have to make this special," Enya said, according to the BBC. "I know rugby people are amazing and they would embrace it. She is the love of my life. The Olympic Games can look like closure but for me it's starting a new life with someone. I wanted to show people that love wins."

A North Carolina native with duel American and Brazilian citizenship, Cerullo began dating her fiancée two years ago. The pair recently relocated to São Paulo so Cerullo could go out for the Brazil's ruby sevens team, according to The Guardian, and that journey ended in a joyful kiss on Monday.
