On Thursday night, the NFL kicked off the first round of its annual draft. However, unlike 2012, it wasn't dominated by the quarterback position.

Nonetheless, day one of the draft did produce its share of surprises, which oddly enough included Geno Smith and Manti Te'o not getting picked in the opening round. The two were widely considered by many experts to be of top five pick caliber.

Smith was considered to be the best QB available, but still remains without a team, as the Buffalo Bills chose quarterback in E.J. Manuel.

There have been five trades in the NFL Draft thus far. The Miami Dolphins traded their way to the No. 3 pick in order to obtain pass rusher Dion Jordan.

The St. Louis Rams traded for the No. 8 position and took wide receiver Tavon Austin. The San Francisco 49ers moved themselves to No. 18, nabbing safety Eric Reid. The Atlanta Falcons traded up to get Desmond Trufant. Lastly, the Minnesota Vikings traded back into the first round to obtain Cordarrelle Patterson.

Overall, the first round of the draft was dominated by offensive linemen, which included two guards. Interestingly enough, not one guard has been taken in the top ten picks since 1997.
