While Beyoncé seemed to be a last minute performer for the MTV Video Music Awards tonight (Sunday), it's safe to say the singer shut down the stage from the minute she sang her first note and broke out her dance moves.

She shocked the audience when she recreated the Lemonade album on stage with hit songs like Hold Up, Sorry and of course Formation. Her entire performance lasted about 15 minutes. The only other entertainer who was on stage longer was Rihanna, who performed four times throughout the evening as she received The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

There were whispers that Beyoncé would be performing days before the highly anticipated show. But it did not seem to be confirmed until Saturday.

An insider told Los Angeles Times that Beyoncé, who led the nominations with 11 total, had "been in top secret rehearsals."

Rumors that Beyoncé would be hitting the stage also seemed to be confirmed after she hit the red carpet with none other than her and rapper Jay Z's daughter Blue Ivy Carter, 4, Sunday night.

Interestingly enough, Blue Ivy's first appearance was at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards when Beyoncé announced she was pregnant. The mother and daughter duo along with Jay Z were also a united front when Beyoncé won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award in 2014.

She also invited Mothers of the Movement (moms who have lost their sons to police brutality) to join her at the big show.
