3 More Boston Bombing Suspects Taken into Custody, Connected to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev? [VIDEO]
Three suspects have been taken into custody in the connection to the Boston marathon bombings, city police said Wednesday.
The police department made the announcement in a tweet Wednesday morning and said more details would follow. Police spokeswoman Cheryl Fiandaca confirmed the tweet but referred all other questions to the FBI. In a followup tweet, the police department emphasized that "there is no threat to public safety."
Three people were killed and more than 260 injured on April 15 when two bombs exploded near the finish line. Suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, died after a shootout with police on April 18 and his brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was captured the day after. He now lies in a hospital prison.
NBC News' Pete Williams said the arrest reportedly involves students who allegedly helped remove items from Dzhokhar's dorm room at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in days following the bombing. Williams said so far there is no indication that the three individuals had any knowledge of the bombing before it took place. NBC also reported that authorities had been watching the three suspects for about 10 days, according to USA Today.
The Boston Globe quoted an unidentified source that said the three were connected to Dzhokhar at the university and helped him after the bombings.
