'Pokemon GO' Guide: Buddy System Tips, Easter Eggs And More [VIDEO]
The recent Pokemon GO update is bringing a lot of new changes to the game, particularly the Buddy System. Here's a full guide on how to get the most out of the new system.
What is the Buddy System?
The Pokemon GO Buddy System is Niantic's way of addressing the Pokemon Candy dilemma that players usually face. Prior to the update, acquiring Pokemon Candies require an immense effort. With the Buddy System, however, Candies could be earned by doing one of the most basic tasks in Pokemon GO -- walking.
Apart from this, having a Buddy Pokemon invokes the feeling of being like Ash Ketchum, the protagonist of the Pokemon franchise, and his best friend, Pikachu. Now who would pass up that chance?
How to Make the Most Out of the Buddy System
With the Buddy System in place, there are a number of things in the game that has improved significantly. Among the most prominent of these would be Pokemon evolutions. With the Buddy System giving out free Pokemon Candies, players of the game would be able to strategize the evolution of their Pokemon more efficiently.
Thus, one of the best ways to make the most out of the Buddy System is to select a Pokemon that has potential and has significant room for improvement. Rare Pokemon in their base form would be a good idea, since gathering Candies for them in conventional ways would prove tedious.
Pokemon GO Buddy System Easter Egg
Just like Niantic's little trick with Starter Pokemon, the developer also placed a very notable Easter Egg for the game's Buddy System. As noticed by avid Pokemon GO players in The Silph Road, there is a way for Pikachu to travel with the player's avatar in the exact same way that the iconic Pokemon does in the animated series.
If players select Pikachu as their Buddy Pokemon, all they need to do is to walk 10 kilometers. During the first 10 kilometers, Pikachu is seen in the game walking alongside the player. Once the player walks 10 kilometers, however, Pikachu would jump on the player's shoulder, just like Pikachu does in the anime.
