Amanda Berry, Gina Dejesus and Michelle Knight: Victims Gave Birth to 5 babies While in Captivity [VIDEO]
The three girls who were kidnapped and held hostage at a Cleveland home for 10 years reportedly gave birth to five babies while in captivity.
One of the victims suffered three miscarriages due to being severely malnourished, according to NewsChannel5 police.
WKYC reported that Amanda Berry, Gina Dejesus, and Michelle Knight were also beaten while in captivity, which likely caused the deaths of the unborn children.
When police arrived at the home after receiving a 911 call from Berry on Monday evening, they found the three girls, along with Berry’s 6-year-old daughter, and rescued them from the home. Authorities confirmed that the little girl was born to Berry while she was in captivity but it is unclear who the father is, the Daily Mail reported.
Police praised Berry on Tuesday for escaping and calling authorities, informing them of the other two women at the home.
“The real hero here is Amanda,” Cleveland Deputy Police Chief Ed Tomba said at a press conference. “She came out of that house and that started it all.”
Police said that although Child Protective Services had been sent to the home in 2004 to inquire about the kidnappings, they left without speaking to the homeowner, Ariel Castro, after there was no answer.
The suspected captors - brothers Ariel Castro, 52, Pedro Castro, 54, and Oneil Castro, 50 - were arrested Monday and are awaiting charges.
