Harrison Ford gets $2 million over life-threatening leg injury
It is a whopping $2 million for Foodles Production in a mere "miscommunication" that injured the leg of actor Harrison Ford and caused him his life. Ford who portrays Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon, was also described as a smuggler, scoundrel, and hero. Often a loner, he had a changed of heart when Luke Skywalker urged him to help the Rebels attack the Death Star.
The incident happened in 2014 while shooting for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens on its London set inside the Millenium Falcon. Although the set is just made for the movie, the hydraulic door seems to be working, fit to travel into the outer space. On the court proceedings, CNN reported Judge Francis Sheridan has decided on the case and said "The greatest failing of all on behalf of the company is a lack of communication," he added "If only they had included Mr. Ford in all the discussions, he might have at least been alert to the dangers that he had to avoid."
The Disney-owned production company has breached two health and safety oversights when the incident happened that postponed the shooting for two weeks. On a rundown by The Verge on that day, Ford did not know the door is "live" when he walked underneath it, a spotter signaled the operator to close the door and almost coming down on his face with the strength of a small car. It is strange though that it has not been activated on previous rehearsals which all the more strengthened the case against the production company.
In a lighter note, although the incident broke Harrison Ford's tibia and fibula bones of his left leg, he was still able to joke about it in an interview on "Jonathan Ross Show." Ford compares the advanced technology on the Force Awakens set with the basic props saying "In the original film, the door would have been closed with a pulley," Ford told the host. "Now we had lots of money and technology and so they built a fucking great hydraulic door which closed at light speed."
