Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the mastermind behind the Boston Marathon bombings which killed 3 people and injured over 170 last month, has been buried in a secret location, according to reports.

It is unclear if he was buried today or Wednesday. Tsarnaev's dead body was claimed by a "mystery benefactor." He was reportedly buried in a secret midnight service at an undisclosed location, according to a statement by the Worcester Police Department posted on its website today.

"As a result of our public appeal for help, a courageous and compassionate individual came forward to provide the assistance needed to properly bury the deceased. His body is no longer in the City of Worcester and is now entombed," the statement said.

"The Police Chief would like to thank all of the officers who worked the security detail at the funeral home and acknowledge their professionalism and dedication," it added.

"The Chief would also like to acknowledge Mr. Peter Stefan and Mr. Ruslan Tsarni for their cooperation. Deputy Police Chief Steve Sargent deserves recognition for his hard work and logistical coordination. City Clerk David Rushford also assisted by providing important information regarding the burial process. Congress Jim McGovern and his staff for their responsiveness and assistance."

"Most importantly the Chief thanks the community that provided the burial site. There is no further information at this time."

26-year-old Tamerlan was shot to death in a shootout with police on April 18.

News of his burial come after it was reported that his family couldn't find a place for his burial after Massachusetts cemeteries were not willing to accept the bomber's body. Tsarnaev's uncle Ruslan Tsarnim, went to Worcester, Mass. to "prepare the body" to be buried, according to NBC News.

According to the Daily Mail, the burial location was approved by Tamerlan's uncle.
