Brian Williams; NBC Cancels 'Rock Center'
NBC has pulled the plug on the troubled newsmagazine Rock Center with Brian Williams.
The show is already two seasons old, but it has never found a home in the weekly NBC schedule. When it first aired in October 2011, it was slated for a Monday timeslot. However, it quickly moved to Wednesday but then flip-flopped back to Mondays. When it premiered for a second season, Rock Center was offered on Thursday nights before being pushed to Fridays, according to the Inquisitr.
This constant movement cost the show dearly, keeping it from ever developing a reliable fan base.
"Just when you think somebody might figure out when it's on and want to see it the next week, they move it to another place," said Ted Koppel, former ABC Nightline anchor, last March, according to the Associated Press. "That's not helpful, and I think Brian deserves more support than that."
However, the show has had its successes. Its failure on air is not due to lack of interesting reporting, reports the Inquisitr. Rock Center netted an interview with Penn State's assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky during the child sexual abuse scandal and aired a piece on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday night.
"I'm so proud of the work we did," Williams said, according to The New York Times. "Our people got shot at for this broadcast. They pulled countless all-nighters. They investigated, cajoled, hustled and cared deeply. They won awards, won the respect of their colleagues and produced great television journalism."
The last episode of Rock Center will air on June 21.
