Seth Meyers Replaces Fallon; Meyers to Take Over 'Late Night'
Seth Meyers is moving up in the world of late night television. The Saturday Night Live comedian will take over for Jimmy Fallon in 2014.
Fallon, who currently hosts NBC's Late Night, will take over for Jay Leno on the Tonight Show and leave the 12:35 a.m. spot open for Meyers, according to Boston.
Meyers has worked with Saturday Night Live for 12 years, the last eight of which he served as head writer. Fans may recognize him most from his seven-year stretch doing the SNL Weekend Update.
"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation," Said Bob Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, according to Access Hollywood. "His years at SNL's 'Weekend Update' desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise,"
Late Night culled its last three hosts from the Saturday Night Live team. Both Fallon and Conan made a name for themselves on the sketch comedy show.
Lorne Michaels will continue on as the show's executive producer while also serving in the same position for Saturday Night Live, according to the Huffington Post.
"I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car," quipped Meyers, according to Access Hollywood. "12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice."
Also considered for the position was Tina Fey, but the Huffington Post states that the comedienne claimed her plate was already full.
