UNICEF: 300 million children getting toxic air into their lungs
The United Nations Children's Fund has done some research and they have concluded a reprort again. Their recent reports, which are of the highest quality, expose something horrible.
It was something everyone knew beforehand but no one knew just how much the weight of the situation is. They recently released that 300 million children globally are constantly breathing in highly toxic air.
The New York Times reported how they used satellite imagery around the globe to emphasize on the issue. They also reporeted that most of the children, about 220 million, are located in South Asia. They also mentioned that these areas have pollution numbers six times higher than what the World Health Organization considers the bare maxium amount of allowed and safe pollution.
The fact is that of course adults are being exposed to the same amount of pollution. But the difference and emphasis is on children because children are in a development age where their lungs are growing. Their lungs are also much weaker than an adults.
This brings them to a much higher chance of future issues compared to a healthy adult breathing in this toxic air.
Boing Boing reported that the most dangerous of the toxic material is PM 2.5. PM which is incredibly small and is barely even visible to the human eye. However, its small size allows it to enter the blood stream extremely easily and from then onwards it can reach places like the heart and lungs.
It can then cause heart failures, strokes, respiration issues, and lack of oxygen intake. These problems are also known to be life long issues, especially for the younger curve of children such as babies and infants. It is really sad to see that 300 million children are at the risk of life long bodily functions even when none of them played any part in the cause of the problem.
