Video: The Puma Autodisc self-tying shoes makes Nike nervous!
When multi-national firms compete over their products, it is almost certain that their products are similar and released around the same time. Their main competition is making their own product better than their competitor's. This can be applied to the futuristic shoes both Nike and Puma have.
That being said, it has recently been discussed by various people that the Puma's new self tying shoes, the Autodisc may very well be a better "Smart" shoe compared to Nike's HyperAdapt.
The shoe by Puma was announced last year and since then not much was known about them overall. However, Engadget recently did an exclusive with the new shoes where their senior editor did a hands on review of the entire product.
After watching the review it can easily be said that at the very least, Puma does have some advantages over Nike.
The shoes themselves work with any smart phone on Google Play or the App Store, and they connect to the phones using blue-tooth. The phones come with a dedicated wireless charging pad and their smart phone apps not only wirelessly change the tightness of the shoes, but it can also show the shoes' battery life.
After a full report read by the reviewers as well as Pop Sugar, two unique advantages were determined for the Autodisc over the HyperAdapt.
First of all, the Autodisc have their motor for self adjustment on the tip of the shoe unlike the HyperAdapt. So if the user runs with them, they will not feel the machines and it will feel more like a natural shoe.
Secondly, the Puma shoes come with an application which can find people or athletes find the perfect tightness for their shoes while HyperAdapt do not.
These two advantages will surely make Nike step up their game. Now one must wait for Nike's move in this game.
