‘Justice League’ Cast News: “Game of Thrones” Star, Ciaran Hinds Confirmed as Villain, Steppenwolf
"Justice League" welcomes another "Game of Thrones" actor in its cast. Ciaran Hinds joins the DC movie cast. Producers just confirmed the Irish actor as the film's key villain, Steppenwolf.
Warner Brothers just dropped another name into the "Justice League" roster of actors when it confirmed that Hinds is playing Steppenwolf, the first installment's chief antihero. This is different from who fans thought of as the upcoming villain, Darkseid.
The deleted scene from "Batman v Superman" plus this new revelation from WB just cemented the fact that Steppenwolf is indeed the one great villain in the anticipated "Justice League" live action film.
Den of Geek reported that the WB film, featuring most of the main DC superheroes, just finished principal photography. Filming in London wrapped up a few weeks ago and the cast and crew are now shooting other scenes in Iceland.
Being in the last stages of filming, Hinds involvement in "Justice League" had definitely been kept under wraps. It is not possible that the creators are signing him on just now when shooting is almost over.
After "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was shown in cinemas, moviegoers believed that the league of DC superheroes will be facing Darkseid in the upcoming DC movie. This is after the March 2016 film dropped hints that the alien is closing in on earth.
Warner Brothers may have thought that it is not wise to bring in Darkseid so early in the franchise especially if they plan to produce sequels. After all, the alien from Apokolips is one of the fiercest villains of the Justice League.
Conversely, Steppenwolf is also from Apokolips and uses an energy axe as a weapon. He is Darkseid's cousin and leads his army.
Although Steppenwolf is considered as a supervillain, he is not as powerful as his kin. Therefore, this may be the reason why he is just being used as a precursor for the more powerful Darkseid, who WB might be reserving for part 2 of the superhero film.
"Justice League" is set for a Nov. 17, 2017 opening while its second part is scheduled for a 2019 release.
