US Elections 2016: How did Donald Trump win the race to the White House?
Well, the time came. In what seemed to be a surprise run of events, Donald Trump emerged as the victor of the 2016 US elections - initially seen as one that will go to Hillary Clinton.
So now, the question reckons - how did he manage to do it?
Malaysia Kini has quite an interesting article about this entire phenomenon. The approach Trump used is somewhat related to how George Bush won in 2004.
A quote from Trump's wife describes it best: "We live in the Age of The Kardashians. As long as you can create enough hoopla as a one-man circus, you can make it."
With that said, the main factor Trump used in his victory was a dormant class of voters. He acknowledged that whenever there are elections, there are always two different kinds of people: people who vote actively and people who lie dormant even though they can vote.
Statistically speaking, dormant people are quite high in number. There are enough of them to turn the face of a doomed election completely. That is exactly what happened.
Even the New York Post discusses how Trump was swinging his ball hard in one direction rather than going and trying to please everyone.
According to him, he was trying to hard right because on the right side there are many voters who lie dormant and do not vote. If he gave them a reason to vote, he could easily turn the face of the election.
Before Election Day, Hillary's potential win came as a near-certainly, considering how she was ahead in opinion polls. However, it was during the Election Day itself when Trump took an early lead and took it all the way to victory.
This does somewhat confirm his theory of getting to the dormant voters.
Either way, strategy or not, he did manage to surprise everyone during Election Day with his immense lead. It worked, and now he is the president of the United States of America.
