Trump offered Apple CEO Tim Cook incentives to build iPhones in US
Recently, President Elect Donald Trump said in an interview that he had a talk with Apple CEO, Tim Cook and he said to get Apple to build its product in the US rather than outside and offered him incentives.
It is given in the full transcript of the interview by New York Times, Trump said that "I got a call from Tim Cook at Apple, and I said, 'Tim, you know one of the things that will be a real achievement for me is when I get Apple to build a big plant in the United States, or many big plants in the United States, where instead of going to China, and going to Vietnam, and going to the places that you go to, you're making your product right here.' He said, 'I understand that.' I said: 'I think we'll create the incentives for you, and I think you're going to do it. We're going for a very large tax cut for corporations, which you'll be happy about.' "
Cook has said before that Apple makes its products in China because they have manufacturing skill and expertise in this field. Which indicates that he do not agree with Trump at this point.
Trump has been critical of Apple's use of Chinese manufacturing for years, and it became a talking point of his while on the campaign trail. In January, he said that "we're gonna get Apple to start building their damn computers and things in this country, instead of in other countries." He made similar comments in March, also calling out iPhone production. As written in The Verge.
Apple CEO Tim Cook was supporting Hillary Clinton and he hosted a fundraiser for the Democratic candidate. Convincing Apple to move its manufacturing in the US will not be easy and Trump has to put a lot of efforts for it. Apple is a huge company and if it moves back to the US, there will be many job opportunities as there are approximately 116k employees who work in Apple currently and there are half million jobs directly and indirectly.
