Hofstra Student Killed in Home Invasion: 21-Year-Old Andrea Rebello Shot in Long Island
A 21-year-old Hofstra student was shot and killed after her home was invaded early Friday morning.
The student, Andrea Rebello, was sharing a home with her twin sister on Long Island. An armed gunman broke into their house and held Rebello hostage. After police were called, the gunman began shooting at them, according to reports.
The gunman shot and killed Rebello and was also killed, though police are unsure of exactly what went down at this time.
The incident occurred at 2:00 am on a residential street.
Deputy Inspector Kenneth Lack, of the Nassau County Police Department stated: "Shortly after our arrival, a shooting took place where the suspect is killed and one of the female victims are killed."
Victoria Dehel, who lives in the neighborhood explained the situation:
"It sounded like a bunch of drunk college students on a Thursday night and then it just got very loud. I was with my boyfriend, and we were just listening. And then the screaming just got worse and worse and worse. And then we heard thuds, like five bangs. Me and my boyfriend went on the porch to see what was going on. And we saw cops flying down the block."
Rebello was a junior at Hofstra University studying public relations.
