'Anchorman 2:' Trailer Premieres [VIDEO], 2013 Release Date Set For December 20th
Will Ferrell returns as Ron Burgundy in the latest trailer for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
The trailer premiered in theaters nationwide before Star Trek Into Darkness, which came out on Thursday. Though the trailer does not feature any new footage from the movie, it is presented in the same format as the first two teaser trailers.
The trailer premiered online on Saturday; watch it here:
The film is the sequel to the popular comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, which came out in 2004. It features Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, David Koechner as "Champ" Kind, Paul Rudd as Brian Fantana and Steve Carell as Brick Tarnland.
In the trailer, each of the characters looks directly into the camera and delivers a catchphrase, with Carell's dim-witted Brick humorously stating, "Happy Easter," to the annoyance of Ferrell's Ron.
Little is known about the actual plot of the sequel, but the film's director/co-writer, Adam McKay, revealed that it would involve a "custody battle" and "bowling for dollars." Ferrell wrote the film's screenplay with McKay.
The film will feature the returns of Ferrell, Koechner, Rudd and Carell as their original Anchorman characters in addition to Christina Applegate, who will return as Veronica Corningstone.
Vince Vaughn and Fred Willard will also be reprising their roles from the original film. SNL veteran Kristen Wiig will be playing Brick's wife.
Additionally, IMDb lists several big names as being attached to the project, including: Jim Carrey, Kirsten Dunst, Tina Fey, Harrison Ford, Nicole Kidman, Liam Neeson, Amy Poehler and Kanye West, though most will simply be cameos.
Ferrell and Applegate were spotted filming scenes for the sequel in New York City early Saturday, styled in retro clothing.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues will be released nationwide on December 20th, 2013. The film is produced by Judd Apatow and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
