Mischa Barton was very happy to be eliminated from Dancing With the Stars earlier this year.

Barton openly spoke against her Dancing With the Stars experience in a new interview. The actress, most well known for The O.C., was eliminated in the second week of her season in April, after having a visibly miserable time.

"I had no idea it would be so bad," Barton admitted in a new interview with The Ringer.

The actress explained, "I got told off by my dancer. I was supposed to control the costumes, I was told that I could do the design aspect of it, that's kind of the reason why I agreed to do it."

Yet what she experienced wasn't exactly what she was hoping for.

"That didn't happen. It wasn't collaborative like a choreographer on a film set. ... I was so confused by it. It was like 'The Hunger Games'. It was all a popularity contest. It was awful. I was so glad to get kicked off."

Barton said at the time when she was eliminated from the show that she and partner Artem Chigvintsev probably could have gone another week, but it wasn't meant to be.

"It was definitely, maybe more than I had bargained for in a lot of ways," Barton told Entertainment Tonight. "But I'm so happy I tried something that's that foreign to me, and you know, had this experience with these guys."

Regardless, the experience of getting back into the spotlight after years of shying away from it helped teach Barton a valuable lesson about controlling her own narrative.

"I remember the days when you had no voice, and they could make up stories and say whatever they wanted, and now at least they have an insight into your life," she told The Ringer. "People can see what you're really like. Twitter less so, but Instagram has an artistic side to it, where you can see through that person's eye, what they creatively choose, what they're up to and who they are - you get a feeling for them. I enjoy it now."
