CES 2017: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor To Enhance AR/VR experience, 10nm SoC With Kryo CPU, Quick Charge 4 And More [Video]
Qualcomm announced the debut of the newest Snapdragon chip, the Snapdragon 835 next week, with their series of tweets. The debut will be happening at the Consumer Electronic Shows or CES in Las Vegas. CES is a 3-day event starting on January 5, 2017.
The upcoming chip is said to come with Quick Charge 4 technology that ill makes 5 hours of battery life with 5 minutes of charging. Quick Charge 4 is also expected to provide a 20 percent faster charging and a 30 percent higher efficiency rates in comparison to its predecessor i.e. Quick Charge 3. This massive improvement is a courtesy of Dual Charge parallel charge technology, which will be incorporated in the chip.
The company's flagship SoC for smartphones, tablets, virtual-reality headsets, and mobile PCs will be much smaller in size than Qualcomm's previous generation mobile processors, that will enhance AR/VR experience, improve battery life and ensure fast internet connectivity.
At the press event conducted by Qualcomm, it was announced that the Snapdragon 835 chipset is designed to improve the next-generation AR/VR experiences, with up to 25 per cent increase in 3D graphics that are rendering and 60 times more in colors. Major improvements have also been made to improve visual quality, sound quality and intuitive interactions.
According to Indian Express, Snapdragon 835 is the also first commercial SoC to use Samsung's 10nm 10LPE FinFET process technology. As a result, the overall size is of 35 per cent lesser than the Snapdragon 820 and it will consume 25 per cent less power and packs in more than three billion transistors.
A 10nm chip is "1,000 times smaller than a strand of hair," according to the company, and "a significantly smaller footprint than their 14nm predecessors." Qualcomm says that the new node will "help Snapdragon 835 processors achieve high-quality power efficiency and performance."
The new Octa-core chipset has all its processors humming at 2.2 GHz with graphic processing being handled by a latest Adreno 540 GPU, reports GSM Arena.
More details and technical specifications for the Snapdragon 835 will be announced by Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf, who will deliver the keynote address on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at 9 a.m. PST or 12 p.m. EST, during CES 2017.
