NFL News: Tom Brady’s Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels Might Leave New England Patriots For Head Coaching Gig
After the 2016 NFL regular season concluded last week, New England Patriots emerge as the best team. With a 14-2 win-loss record, they finished the season as the top overall team in the league. They won seven straight games to end the season.
The Patriots reached the NFL Playoffs for eight consecutive seasons. They only lost to the Giants and the Seahawks in the 2016 season. Tom Brady is the main reason behind the Patriots rise to the standings.
After Brady missed the first 4 games of the season because of a suspension due to an alleged role in the Deflategate scandal, the 12-time Pro Bowl participant came back strong. When he came back, the Patriots went on to win 13 out of 14 games.
Because of Brady's outstanding performance, there is a high chance that he will bag this season's Most Valuable Player award. He already won two MVP awards in 2007 and 2010. He missed 4 games and his age is 39. If he wins it again this year, this might be the most impressive one.
According to NFL, Brady credits his offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for his achievements this season. He also said that McDaniels is the best in the NFL.
McDaniels has been the offensive coordinator of the Patriots since 2012. And since he was hired by the Patriots, he has witnessed Brady making 21,603 passing yards, 156 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.
But McDaniels is reportedly scheduled for a head coaching job interview, per Patriots. The league rules allowed the playoff teams with a bye to conduct an interview for head coaching job during that bye week. The teams interested in McDaniels are the Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars and the San Francisco 49ers.
ESPN Insider Adam Schefter said that the Patriots might set up a day for the head coaching interviews during the team's bye week. The interview will take place in New England on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and director of NFL player personnel Nick Caserio are also set for an interview from other teams, as further discussed by Patriots.
