iMac 2017 Specs, Release: Apple's Desktop Powered With Intel Kaby Lake Likely Set For March Release
The much-anticipated iMac 2017 will probably be released at the next Apple big event in March 2017. The Apple event will also see the arrival of the new iPad Pro 2. The Cupertino-based company has already made three important events and iMacs were apparently a no-show and even was not mentioned in all of those events.
Almost two years ago was the last Apple made its iMac model. That iMac model featured a 27-inch of 5K Retina display along with Skylake processor and AMD graphics. It did not receive much design overhaul, so Apple enthusiasts are hoping that the upcoming iMac 2017 will feature exciting new technology.
Apparently, the new iMac 2017 will retain the 27-inch 5K Retina display of the 2015 model. Nevertheless, the new iMac will offer support for an OLED Touch Bar. It is also possible that the new iMac will pack the Intel Xeon processor instead of Kaby Lake chips.
Intel Xeon is presently being used in most of the today's high-end workstations and servers. However, the addition of the Xeon processor could result in the price of the iMac getting a significant increase.
Intel started delivery of its Kaby Lake processors in July 2016, and the chips supported Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 and DisplayPort 1.2. It might be possible that Apple will squeeze Kaby Lake chips into the next iMac update. Although there is no guarantee, since some of the Kaby Lake chips are not expected to be distributed until early 2017.
The specific model of Kaby Lake processor expected to appear in the next iMac is the i7-7700. Speed tests revealed that the i7-7700 is capable of 4.2GHz under normal circumstances, and 4.8GHz when overclocked. Such speed would give the new iMac bragging rights over the rival Surface Studio.
