While moviegoers have been buzzing over the premiere of Fast & Furious 6, which hit theaters on May 24, an animated movie targeting kids also came out on the same day.

The animated movie Epic focuses on a teenage girl, voiced by actress Amanda Seyfried, who finds herself in a forest where evil forces are trying to take over. The movie follows the young girl as she attempts to save this foreign world.

Other big stars lend their voices to the animated film, including Beyonce, whose role was highly publicized. Despite the big star's presence, critics are not impressed by the movie.

"When the movie should touch the heart, it just misses," writes Betsy Sharkey for The Los Angeles Times. "When moments should produce gales of laughter, it struggles for a smile. When panic and fear should set the heart racing, it doesn't."

The New York Times agrees.

"As you watch its characters zoom through a lush forest on the backs of hummingbirds, the gorgeous 3-D adventure comedy Epic suggests a warmer, fuzzier Avatar, with a green heart. Directed by Chris Wedge, the movie is a hymn to nature rendered in phantasmagoric detail as refined as anything I've seen in a computer-animated family film. But as beautiful as it is, Epic is fatally lacking in visceral momentum and dramatic edge," writes Stephen Holden.

Still, Beyonce, who plays Queen Tara, is excited for the film, especially because of her daughter Blue Ivy Carter.

"You know, I was so honored when they asked for me to do this role. And I was actually pregnant at the time. And I thought, 'You know, by the time this comes out my daughter will ... understand it's my voice and what an incredible, cool point,'" she told ABC in an interview in May.
