There is understandably a lot of excitement amongst DC fans for the upcoming superhero team-up film, "Justice League," which is scheduled to premiere later in the year. While there haven't been any new updates yet regarding the film, some reports have now revealed new developments in the upcoming new stand-alone "Aquaman" movie.

Warner Bros. previously confirmed that it was going to be casting the actor Patrick Wilson as the movie's main antagonist, however, new reports have confirmed that there seems to be a secondary villain that is going to be appearing. The secondary villain will be coming in the form of Aquaman's long-time comic book rival, the Black Manta.

According to a report from Hollywood Reporter, the studio has reportedly chosen Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to play Aquaman's archenemy, the Black Manta. The character first debut in "Aquaman" comics in "Aquaman#35" back in 1967. Ever since then the villain has continued to battle with Aquaman in different mediums outside of comic books.

Abdul-Mateen is best known for his role in the Netflix series, "The Get Down." According to a report from Variety, the actor was apparently chosen amongst a short list of potential candidates to play the role, including Corey Hawkins from "24: Legacy" and Trevante Rhodes from "Moonlight."

Abdul-Mateen will be joining Wilson, who will be playing as Aquaman's half-brother, Orm Marius aka the "Ocean Master," as they try to take down the king of Atlantis, played by Jason Momoa. Before appearing in the new stand-alone "Aquaman" movie, Momoa is set to appear in the upcoming "Justice League" movie scheduled to be released on Nov. 17.

The upcoming "Aquaman" stand-alone movie will be directed by James Wan with Peter Safran as Producer. Other big name backers include Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, and Rob Cowan, who will be taking part in the project as executive producers. "Aquaman" is scheduled to be release in theaters on Oct. 5., 2018.
