'Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret' Lifetime Movie PREVIEW VIDEO: Premiere Date of Travis Alexander Killer Drama Announced (WATCH)
The Lifetime network confirmed an air date for a TV movie based on the real-life drama of convicted murderer Jodi Arias.
The cable network announced that the original movie, Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret, will premiere on Saturday, June 22, at 8 p.m., according to Deadline. A one hour documentary, Jodi Arias: Behind The Deadline, will immediately follow the two-hour original movie.
Enstars reported last month that Lost actress Tania Raymonde will portray the high-profile convicted murderer. She will portray the former photographer who was on trial for almost six months. Autopsy records showed Arias stabbed her ex-lover Travis Alexander over 27 times, slit his throat from ear-to-ear and shot him in the head.
Moviegoers most recently saw Raymonde in Texas Chainsaw 3D, released in theatres in January. Actor Jesse Lee Soffer has been cast to play Alexander, according to the report. He recently appeared in the Mob Doctor television series, playing Nate Devline.
The cable network's original movie will be directed by Jace Alexander, and the script was written by Richard Blaney and Gregory Small. The movie's executive producers are Joshua D. Maurer, Alixandre Witlin and Judith Verno. All three of them have worked on previous courtroom and crime dramas such as Prosecuting Casey Anthony, 2011's Amanda Knox: Murder On Trial In Italy, Drew Peterson: Untouchable and The Craigslist Killer.
Arias was found guilty of murder in the first-degree on May 8 and the jury reached a "cruel manner" verdict on May 15 in the second phase of her trial. "Cruel manner" is when a victim suffered physical and or mental pain, according to Arizona law.
On May 23, the judge declared a mistrial in the sentencing phase of Arias' trial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision in the third phase. They failed to agree on whether Arias should have been sentenced to life in prison or given the death penalty.
Judge Sherry Stephens announced in the Maricopa County courtroom that the new proceedings will begin July 18. If the proceedings rule in favor of no re-trial of the sentence phase, then Arias will serve life in prison. If the penalty phase is re-tried and the new jury cannot reach a unanimous decision, then the final decision for the sentence options will be left up to the judge.
The Lifetime movie script was rewritten after the charges were announced this month, according to Deadline.
