Donald Trump Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star Vandal Gets Sentenced To Three Years Of Probation
The man who vandalized the Hollywood Walk of Fame star of the then-Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, last fall with a pickax and a sledgehammer has received three years of formal probation. He also has to settle the fines for the damage he caused when he assaulted the pavement.
James Lambert Otis has pleaded no contest to felony vandalism on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, LA Daily News reported. He has been ordered to pay the fine of $3,700 to the Hollywood Historic Trust and $700 to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and was also sentenced to work for 20 days for Caltrans.
Otis, the heir to the Otis Elevator Company, was caught on video using the tools to deface Donald Trumps' star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame on Oct. 26, KTLA 5 reported. The brass medallion, which was placed in the middle of the star as part of the commemoration to the previous television host, was also reportedly removed.
The 53-year-old Los Angeles man spoke with LA Times about the incident after it happened. "I just sort of had enough with Mr. Trump's aggressive language toward women and his behavior, his sexual violence with women and against women," Otis said at the time, but Trump called the allegations false.
Otis, drawing from previous experiences, recalled the events that happened in his family in the past about assault and sexual violence. "It all became very personal," he continued to note.
Trump, who is now the President of the United States, first received his Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2007, which is located near the Hollywood Highland complex on Hollywood boulevard. He hosted the popular NBC show "The Apprentice" for 14 seasons. He was replaced by current host, Arnold Schwarzenegger, after he announced his plans to run for presidency in June 2016.
