Katy Perry News: British Lookalike Says Son Was Bullied Because She Looks Like The Singer
A British mother and model has claimed her son has been bullied out of the local school system -- because she looks and dresses like singer Katy Perry.
The Daily Mail reported Friday that Kent resident Suzanne O'Neill's resemblance to Perry has garnered abuse for both her and her son David. David has not attended classes in six months, after claims the boy's classmates bit and punched him and urinated on his clothes.
"When I went and complained about it at the school I was just told "boys will be boys'," she told the newspaper, noting how her young son has been traumatized by the bullying.
"We had to have a police escort to walk home as I was scared of what might happen," O'Neill said. "It was so horrible to see my little six-year-old so unhappy. He was starving himself and I was scared what would happen to his health."
O'Neill also claimed that even the other adults have attacked her for her looks. She said she had received threats online and while visiting the school -- one mother even, according to O'Neill, yelled that she would "smash [her] face in."
"The other mums are aware that I do the Katy Perry stuff and they are aware that I have done the pin up stuff as well," she said. "They message me on Facebook and say 'you think you're gorgeous because you look like Katy Perry'.
It's awful and since they started saying things like that David's bullying has got a lot worse."
O'Neill, who also participates in a Katy Perry tribute group, said the attacks have affected her career. The mother claimed she has been unable to continue her act since she removed her son from school.
Kent County Council said that they had offered places to David in other schools, but that O'Neill declined many of their offers. Kent Police also confirmed that they were made aware of "minor incidents" at David's former school, but that officers did not believe they would cause any further danger to David or his mother.
On Wednesday, Perry posted an anti-bullying message on her Instagram account, pleading to her fans to stand up against bullying and resist urges to self-harm.
" I want you to be strong. There's only one you in this world, embrace it," the singer wrote, also suggesting that the actions of bullies would come back later in life to haunt them.
"When you grow up and become successful those bullies will WISH they were friends with you and were nice to you," she continued. "Karma will do payback to them, just watch."
