Saudi Arabia 'Too Handsome Man' To Tell Story In Movie [VIDEO]
A man who was allegedly kicked out of Saudi Arabia for being too handsome said he will now speak the truth in an upcoming movie.
Omar Borkan al-Gala was one of three men reportedly given the boot from the Janadriyah Festival, a Saudi cultural event, in April. The Arabic language newspaper Elaph said that the men were considered too handsome and that religious police feared that women in attendance would fall for them. Other sources even suggested that the men were sent out of the country because of it.
Days after the report, pictures of al-Gala were posted on the internet. One showed him wearing a headscarf, smoldering at the camera as he held the reigns of a camel; another showed him engaged in falconry.
In an interview with Canadian broadcast channel CTV on Tuesday, al-Gala was coy about the alleged event, claiming that he would reveal his story through a short film.
"Whatever happened in Saudi is going to stay in Saudi for now," al-Gala told CTV.
"I'm working on a 20-minute short movie to put my story altogether," he continued, "and just to present it to the people who [are] following [me]."
Al-Gala was originally from the United Arab Emirates, but now resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since the incident and the leaked pictures, al-Gala has gained an internet following. His Facebook page gained more than 700,000 followers between May 1 and May 7 before it was mysteriously taken down on May 8. He also told InTouch Magazine that he had been given a Mercedes Benz for his birthday "from a woman I didn't know." He also claimed he would be releasing a calendar to benefit a women's rights group.
Lainey Lui, a reporter for Canadian talk show E-Talk, described al-Gala as being very media savvy and would get the most out of his 15 minutes of fame.
"He already understands how to promote and market," said Lui. "He has a film coming out where he'll tell everyone what the answer is. That's a very savvy way of selling a story."
