Jiah Khan Dead, Bollywood Actress Dies After Suicide at 25 in Mumbai Home [VIDEO]
Bollywood actress Jiah Khan was found dead of an apparent suicide in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India on Monday it was reported by Times of India.
Khan was 25 years old and it is believed that she hanged herself in her home. However, a suicide note was not yet found to determine why she would take her own life.
In her last tweets on Twitter, it appeared that Khan had been troubled by a matter that kept her away from the social networking site. She stopped tweeting on April 20 and returned to the site less than a month later.
"So sorry I have been off twitter! Took a bit of a break from twitter verse.. sometimes u need a sabbatical to recollect ur thoughts," she wrote on May 24.
In her very last tweet, Khan referenced astrology.
"#Pisces born on February 19 are eager to learn," she retweeted.
Ram Gopal Varma, the director who launched the actress in the movie Nishabd, shared his grief on Twitter.
"The last time I met her jiah told me that everyone around her makes her feel like a failure. Inspite of being highly appreciated in Nishabd nd being a part of hugely successful Ghazni and Houseful she had no work for the last 3 years," he tweeted.
He added that Khan was despondent over the state of her career.
'"I dont know the reason what led to this but jiah was very depressed about her career and scared for her future," he added.
Khan was born Nafisa Khan on February 20, 1988 in New York. She was raised in London and her official website said that she studied English literature and Art from MPW in London, and then at the age of 17 went on to study Shakespeare and method acting at the Lee Strasberg's Institute in New York.
Her breakout role came when she starred opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the controversial movie Nishabd in 2007. The film was loosely based on Nabokov's Lolita. Khan became a sensation and received a Filmfare Best Debutant nomination for her acting skills. She also sang one of the songs Take Lite for Nishabd. The versatile Khan was a singer, dancer and embraced all forms of art. Khan was also praised for her appearances in Ghajini, alongside Aamir Khan and Housefull with Akshay Kumar.
Khan was also an ambassador for PETA and with her campaign has helped ban glass coated manja for kite flying that kills and decapitates thousands of birds each year at the kite flying festival in India. She as lobbied for the banning of the killing of stray dogs by leading a debate and walk to save the dogs in Mumbai.
