A high school student who was shot in the head two months ago surprised his friends when he appeared on stage for their graduation on Tuesday.

According to ABC, Balaal Hollings, an honor student, football player and the senior president at Northwestern High School went to a friend's birthday party on April 6. Outside the party, a fight occurred and Balaal tried to break it up. Gunfire soon erupted and he was shot in the head.

The bullet entered Balaal's temporal lobe and he was hospitalized for two weeks, according to his sister Nuballa Hollings, who's been raising him since their mother died two years ago.

"He advanced way faster than we thought that he would," Nuballa said. "He was just fighting so hard. He looked up, and it was like, 'Oh my God, it's my brother again!

"I had missed her dinner, so I promised to make it to the party,"Balaal told ABCNews.com. "After the party, some East Side boy was shooting for no reason. A bullet hit the wall, and then it hit me."

Balaal said that the shooter has not been identified, but didn't belong at the party in the first place.

"I had missed her dinner, so I promised to make it to the party," Balaal said. "After the party, some East Side boy was shooting for no reason. A bullet hit the wall, and then it hit me."

"He wasn't invited. He just showed up, crashed the party," he said.

Because of Balaal's injuries, he was not allowed to finish his senior year. On Tuesday, he reunited with his classmates and friends.

The ceremony was scheduled to start on time, but the graduates knew something wrong when it didn't begin as planned. Moments later, Balaal appeared on the stage and his classmates' worries soon turned to joy.

"First of all, I want to thank God. It is so good to be alive," Balaal said. "I got shot in the head, and I am fully rehabilitated."

"I forgot a lot of stuff. I forgot how to walk. I forgot how to talk. I didn't forget how to eat!" he joked from the podium.
