Simon Cowell On Potentially Returning For 'American Idol' Reboot: 'I Was Asked To Do It, And The Answer Is No'
It seems that until ABC releases the official information about the upcoming celebrities that will sit at the judges table for the American Idol reboot, big news is going to keep coming out about people who turned down an offer.
The latest headline comes from original Idol judge, Simon Cowell. In an interview with Extra's Terri Seymour, Cowell revealed that while he was asked to return, he decided to turn it down.
"I have no interest," Cowell explained. "My memories are when we first started. It was a different time with Randy [Jackson], Ryan [Seacrest] and Paula [Abdul]. You can't recreate that."
Cowell originally sat at the panel alongside Abdul and Jackson. Since then, the producer feels that the show has changed beyond its recognizable state.
"Last time I watched, it was not the same show, just the same name," Cowell went on to explain. "I left for a reason and I never regretted that."
Aside from his work with Idol, Cowell has participated as a judge on both The X Factor, and The X Factor UK, the latter of which he is still actively involved with. Cowell is also a member of the America's Got Talent panel, of which he has already taped the auditions to air this summer. Rumors are still floating around that Ryan Seacrest is in negotiations to return as the show's host.
