Former NBA Player and Coach Derek Fisher Arrested For Possible DUI After Totaling Car
Former Los Angeles Lakers star, Derek Fisher, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of DUI after driving his car into a guardrail on a California highway. Along with his only passenger, former Basketball Wives star, Gloria Govan, Fisher escaped the wreckage without sustaining or causing any major injuries. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that Fisher had been drinking and made him undergo a DUI test. After failing it, he was arrested.
"We are beyond grateful that we are both OK and no one else was involved," said in a statement by Fisher and Govan. No mention of the DUI was given.
Riding in a 2015 Cadillac on U.S. Route 101, 42-year-old Fisher veered to the right into the raised concrete curb and guardrail, slamming it hard. His vehicle was flipped and landed upside down, where it blocked two lanes of traffic. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
In addition to his work as a player, Fisher is also known for his work in coaching for the New York Knicks. However, Fisher was fired in 2016 only two years since taking the position due to a lack of winning games. His first season of coaching has become known as the worst in the franchise's history, with a record of only 17-65.
To many across social media, Fisher now leaves behind a disgraced legacy that overshadows his strong work he delivered while playing on the Lakers. Recently, Fisher had been working as an analyst, covering the current NBA season.
