Former South African President Nelson Mandela received a special visit in the hospital from his ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on Monday.

BBC tweeted that Winnie paid a visit to the 94-year-old on his third day in a Pretoria hospital, where his condition remains serious, but stable, according to reports.

"Nelson #Mandela's (sic) ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela arrives at hospital where he is in serious condition," BBC tweeted.

The Herald Sun reported that members of Nelson's family also went to visit him at the hospital.

The African National Congress, South Africa's ruling party shot down a reports in The Star newspaper that reported on Monday that Nelson's family had blocked senior party leaders from coming to seen him at the hospital.

Nelson is currently in Intensive Care after initially being rushed to the hospital on Saturday. He is reportedly breathing on his own with his wife, Graça Machel by his side. ABC noted that this is the fourth time Nelson has been in the hospital in the last six months.

South Africans have offered prayers at church services for Nelson and well-wishes were sent from all over the world.

The front page of South Africa's Sunday Times read, "It's time to let him go."

The publication reported that Nelson's longtime friend Andrew Mlangeni said that the time is near to say goodbye to the beloved icon.

"You have been coming to the hospital too many times. Quite clearly you are not well and there is a possibility you might not be well again," Mlangeni told the paper.

"Once the family releases him, the people of South Africa will follow. We will say thank you, God, you have given us this man, and we will release him too," Mlangeni added.

Mandela is most known for spending 27 years in jail during his fight to cease apartheid in South Africa. After being released, he was elected as the country's first black president from 1994 to 1999.
