Shia LaBeouf NSA Prediction, Actor Foreshadows PRISM Program in 2008 Jay Leno Clip [VIDEO]
News of the NSA's PRISM surveillance program has spread through the media in recent days.
it was brought to wide attention last week after a former security administrator, Edward Snowden, released documents blowing the whistle on the program's practices.
However, a clip of actor Shia LaBeouf that has been circulated Tuesday suggested that the program's been more active than everyone imagined.
The actor appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno back in September 2008 to promote his movie Eagle Eye, where his character was drawn into harrowing situations after receiving a mysterious phone call. LaBeouf worked together with an FBI consultant to prepare him for the film, a pivotal plot line involved the use of technology and surveillance to exert control over characters.
The actor said the consultant turned him on to some of the practices the organization uses to obtain people's personal information.
"He told me that one in five phone calls which you make are recorded and logged," LaBeouf told the talk show host. "And I laughed at him, and then he played back a phone conversation I had had two years prior to joining the picture.
"It was one of those 'What are you wearing?' kind of things."
The actor said the consultant also informed him that other forms of technology can also be used to monitor people.
"They can use your ADT box to get the stuff going on in your house. Or that they can use OnStar to shut your car down," added LaBeouf.
His comments were similar to that of Tim Clemente, a former FBI counterterrorism agent who spoke with CNN in May in the wake of the Boston Marathon attacks.
"There's a way to look at digital communications in the past. I can't go into detail of how that's done or what's done," the ex-agent said in a transcript.
"But I can tell you that no digital communication is secure. So these communications will be found out. The conversation will be known."
