Princess Mako finally announced that she will abandon her royal status for love as she also confirmed her engagement to her longtime boyfriend who has no royal descent. With this report, it looked like the princess's decision was made out of her will since she announced this with a bright smile.

In a press conference on the Alaska Estate in Tokyo last Sunday, PEOPLE reported that Princess Mako officially confirmed her much-awaited engagement. The eldest daughter of Japanese Emperor Akihito is set to marry her fiancé, Kei Komuro who is a law clerk by profession. The said wedding is said to be held next year, 2018 after the two met at the International Christian University and dated for five years.

During the aid press conference too, the princess who is 25 years old at the moment and Komuro shared everything about their low-key romance. The princes also added and revealed that she was attracted by her fiancé's bright smile when they first met.

With regards to the proposal, it was also revealed that Komuro proposed after dinner one evening of December 2013. But the report about the engagement and Princess Mako renouncing her royal status did not make headlines right away until earlier this year.

Further, it was also reported on Mail Online that the princess has already introduced her fiancé to her parents, Prince Akishino, the second in line to the Chrysanthemum throne and Princess Kiko. She added that she told her parents that he is someone she wished to share her life and future with.

The announcement of the engagement of Princess Mako and Komuro sets in a motion the Nosai no Gi which is considered as the formal engagement ceremony wherein the groom also presents gifts. Because of her abdication, the princess will become the 8th member o the Imperial family to give up royal status in order to marry since World War II. It can be recalled that last 2005, her aunt Sayako, the only daughter of the current Emperor also did the same.
