Allen Iverson News: Ex-Wife Claims Basketball Player Kidnapped Their Children [VIDEO]
Allen Iverson has been accused of kidnapping his children by his ex-wife, Tawanna Iverson, TMZ reported Monday.
The site said that Tawanna filed legal paperwork on Monday to allege that her former husband took off with their five children who are between 3 to 16 years old. Tawanna alleged that Allen asked for permission to take their kids on a short vacation to Charlotte, NC from May 22-26. She agreed, but when the agreed upon return date of May 26 arrived, the kids were not returned to her custody.
The court documents further alleged that Tawanna did not believe Allen ever took their children to Charlotte. She is under the impression that Allen and the children are in a Sheraton hotel in Georgia. Tawanna expressed concern for the well being of her children since Iverson is a reported alcoholic who drinks around the kids.
Tawanna, who has sole and primary custody of the children, has asked the judge to force Allen to return the children to her. She also requested that the judge throw Allen behind bars. This is the latest turn of events for the former spouses. Earlier this month, Tawanna asked a judge to force Iverson to pay child support he was delinquent on. She alleged that Allen owed $40,000 for care of their kids. In January, Allen was ordered to pay $8,000 per month but Tawanna said in her legal briefs that he had not honored the judgment.
In February, a judge in Atlanta admonished Allen for his parenting skills or lack thereof. He was chided as a hindrance to their physical and emotional well being. Based on Allen's behavior, the judge awarded Tawanna legal and physical custody of their children. Allen was permitted visitation but had to adhere to certain guides which included seeing a therapist and attending AA meetings for the next year. He was also prohibited from drinking alcohol for the next 18 months.
"[Iverson] does not know how to manage the children; has little interest in learning to manage the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development," the judge said.
