Star Wars: The Last Jedi Stars Pay Tribute To Late Carrie Fisher At LA Premiere
The late Carrie Fisher is still at the heart of the Star Wars franchise almost a year after her death.
On Dec. 10, Star Wars: The Last Jedi held its world premiere at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The entire cast and crew, including star Mark Hamill and director Rian Johnson, were present at the event.
Red Carpet Premiere Night Dedicated To Carrie Fisher
Disney and Lucasfilm made sure that the presence of the beloved actress was felt throughout the event. Her character was featured prominently in film posters that lined up the red carpet. Johnson also dedicated the night to the memory of Fisher.
"Let's have a blast for Carrie," the writer and director said before the movie screening.
The follow-up to the 2015 box office hit, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will feature Fisher's final performance as Leia Organa. Her character plays a significant part in the upcoming movie as the leader of the rebellion and estranged mother of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Fisher was able to finish filming her scenes before she passed away in December last year.
Mark Hamill Remembers Relationship With Costar
Hamill, who starred alongside Fisher in the original trilogy, talked about his relationship with the actress. Over the years, the two have developed a relationship that mirrored their on-screen characters.
However, admittedly, he missed a lot of important events in Fisher's life, particularly when her daughter, Billie Lourd, was a baby. That is why Hamill was glad that he was able to spend time with her while filming Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
"Even if I wasn't shooting I was coming in for stunt straining and this or that, coming into her trailer and hanging out with her and [her dog] Gary," the actor recounted to The Star. "There was a comfort level we'd developed over all these years. She knew me."
Billie Lourd's Touching Tribute
Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, continued to reference her mother's iconic hairstyles. The young actress' character, Lieutenant Connix, had her hair tied up in space buns in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, however, she sported another Princess Leia look on Sunday's premiere.
This time, Lourd's inspiration was Princess Leia's hair from the award ceremony at the end of Star Wars: A New Hope. It is worthy to note that Lourd also has a bigger role in the new movie.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is said to explore the story behind Luke's self-exile, Kylo's turn to the Dark Side and the identity of Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parents. After their defeat in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the First Order is also expected to retaliate against the Resistance.
The eighth installment of the Star Wars saga opens on Dec. 15. It also stars Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, and Laura Dern.
