Star Wars' Kelly Marie Tran Nabs Lead Role In Elizabeth Olsen Facebook Series
After her breakout stint as Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Kelly Marie Tran has scored another project, Elizabeth Olsen-starrer's Facebook Watch series.
Tran rose to fame because of the 2017 Star Wars film. Now, she is tapped to join the cast of Sorry For Your Loss, a dark comedy series set to air over Facebook Watch. It will consist of 10 episodes and will revolve around Leigh Gibbs, played by Olsen, and her life as a widow at a young age.
The 29-year-old actress will take on the role of Jules, Leigh's sister. Tran's character is deemed to be the "well-meaning disaster" in the family who tries her best to get out of that perception. She is also determined to staying sober.
Trans had previously appeared in About a Boy and in CollegeHumor Originals. But she was largely noted for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which had amassed $1.3 billion.
Representation
The film had probably helped her launch a much more colorful career than ever. But of course, Tran's portrayal of the worker who chose to team up with Finn was really the one that earned admiration.
In an interview with Comicbook, Tran talked about the iconic and mammoth franchise that had become influential. She admitted she found it "wonderful ... that so many people are identifying with the entire film."
Tran further expressed her happiness of being a part of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi film. On the topic of representation, she underlined the cruel reality that unequal representation is just plain as day and is too real in Hollywood.
"It's just true that it's different. People aren't equally represented, so it means a lot to me and I get really emotional when I think about that, and when I think of what it was like to grow up not seeing anyone like you," Tran stressed.
On her everyday life now that she had become part of an epic story, Tran revealed that she does not look like Rose Tico. In one instance she took particularly delight in, the actress narrated that there were moviegoers who had just seen the film.
These people were conversing about the film and even if she was near them, they did not recognize her. After their conversation and her eavesdropping, she had a chance to greet them.
For her upcoming stint, she, along with Star Wars: The Last Jedi costars Oscar Isaac and Mark Hamill, is set to present an award on March 4 at the Oscars. Other presenters are Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot and 21-year-old singer actress Zendaya.
