A nun who sued pop star and American Idol judge Katy Perry has passed away. Sister Catherine Anne Holzman suddenly died during a court hearing in Los Angeles on Friday, March 9.

Katy Perry Versus The Nuns

According to CBS News, the 89-year-old Holzman was apparently in court to discuss the real estate battle between herself, fellow nun Sister Rita Callahan, Perry, and the Los Angeles archdiocese. Holzman and Callahan have fought hard to keep Perry from purchasing the Immaculate Heart of Mary's old covenant located in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Los Feliz. The nuns left the building in 2011.

People Magazine reported that in 2015, Perry visited both Holzman and Callahan in hopes of buying the building. However, despite the interest of the "Waking Up in Vegas" performer in the land and her numerous ways of trying to impress them including performing a gospel song, the sisters refused because they condemn Perry's image.

Perry finds the sisters' excuse as invalid. The 13-time Grammy-nominated artist decided to turn to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for assistance, who approved of the initial purchase while still waiting for final approval from the Vatican.

The decision did not sit well with the sisters who already accepted an offer from entrepreneur Dana Hollister. One year later, a Los Angeles judge sided with the "Chained to the Rhythm" singer and reversed the transaction in Perry's favor. However, both Holzman and Callahan continued to fight the decision.

"Katy Perry, please stop. It's not doing anyone any good [and it's] hurting a lot of people," said Holzman in her final interview to Los Angeles television station ABC 7.

American Idol Premiere Weekend

The news of Holzman's death comes at an inconvenient time for Perry. On Sunday, March 11, ABC Television Network will premiere the first episode of the American Idol reboot. Perry sits a judge of the reality show alongside country music star Luke Bryan and music icon Lionel Richie.

However, Perry is not the only cast member of American Idol surrounded by controversy. The show's original host, Ryan Seacrest, who is the only cast member to return for the reboot has come under fire for a sexual misconduct allegation. While ABC has stood by Seacrest during this time, the scandal affected his coverage of the Oscars red carpet for E! Entertainment Network.

Before Holzman's death and the American Idol premiere weekend, Perry was in the gossip pages in regard to plastic surgery. The "Hot N Cold" singer defied her haters who claimed that she was surgically altered. However, Perry did admit to getting laser eye surgery and got filler injections to avoid having dark circles.
