Jennifer Lawrence’s Ex, Darren Aronofsky, Claimed That She ‘Lost Control’ On ‘Mother!’ Set
Film director Darren Aronofsky revealed that his ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Lawrence, lost control of her emotions when they filmed Mother!
An 'Emotionally Overwhelmed' Experience
Aronofsky revealed in a new interview with The Economist Radio that he was not responsible for pushing the Oscar-winning actress to the point where she injured her diaphragm on set. The director stated Lawrence's acting method took her over the edge and added that it lead to her injury.
"I wasn't pushing Jennifer on that day. I was pulling her back, [encouraging her] to remember that we were just making a movie," said Aronofsky to The Economist Radio in a conversation transcribed by Metro.
The Black Swan and The Fighter director revealed that he does not work well with method actors. Aronofsky added that he liked working with actors who leave their work for the camera and go back to normal once he yells cut. He also stated that what happened to Lawrence was very rare.
"I've never had that situation where an actor was so emotionally ... um ... overwhelmed by the material that they lost control and hurt themselves," said Aronofsky.
The End Of Lawrence And Aronofsky
Once the film wrapped production, Aronofsky began a relationship with Lawrence that started in September 2016. However, several obstacles came between them. Many people thought that their age differences might have been a significant factor in the breakup. Lawrence was 27 years old, and Aronofsky was 48 years old when the couple broke up in November 2017. The final nail in the couple's coffin was the negative reviews that surrounded Mother! and Aronofsky's obsession with perfecting the film.
