Did Kendall Jenner Nearly Suffer A Wardrobe Malfunction At The Met Gala?
Kendall Jenner has been a must-see fixture of the Met Gala since her 2014 debut. This year, though, a wardrobe malfunction almost ruined her night.
Keeping It Stunningly Simple
The reality star and supermodel is known for wearing daring looks at fashion's biggest night of the year. At last year's event, she stunned in a backless La Perla gown with a dramatic cut-out in front, which was almost completely sheer, revealing her pert derriere for all to see.
However, last night she showed up looking rather demure. The 22-year-old stepped onto the Met's iconic steps clad in a white, off-shoulder, ruched couture top, with sheer, elbow-length gloves and matching couture pants. Virgil Abloh, a close friend and Off-White creative director, designed the look.
"[She was] reminiscent of an angelic cloud sought to signify Roman Catholicism in renaissance art — embodying purity and delicacy of a modern angel," gushed the press release.
Accessories were kept minimal, with Jenner opting for a pair of simple white heels and diamond earrings and rings.
Wardrobe Malfunctions Abound
She almost suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction, though, with momager Kris Jenner reportedly stepping in to fix her daughter's jumpsuit, only for Kendall to swat her away.
"Mom, stop!" she reportedly yelled at her.
The Met Gala has a long history of wardrobe malfunctions. British singer Rita Ora accidentally flashed her underwear to the world in a Donna Karan Atelier gown with a huge thigh-high split, back in 2014. Likewise, fellow singer Lorde revealed her nipple in a Valentino dress just two years later.
Teasing Her Return
The theme of this year's gala was the opening of the art exhibit "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination," which showcases 40 pieces on loan from the Vatican along with designs from Chanel, Galliano, and Balenciaga that highlighted the influence of religious iconography on fashion.
Jenner stayed out of the limelight during February's Fashion Month but teased her return to the Met Gala red carpet by posting a photo of her and sister Kylie Jenner at last year's event.
"Met! almost time," she wrote on Instagram.
Bearing An Unlikely Resemblance
Kylie's look for this year's event didn't go down too well in certain quarters. Fans online cheekily compared her look, via a sweet snap with Selena Gomez, to Patrick and Spongebob.
Fans shared funny memes suggesting the two ladies represented the cartoon characters all grown up, thanks to their tan.
The moment marked Jenner's first red carpet appearance with baby daddy Travis Scott since the birth of their daughter, Stormi Webster, on Feb. 1.
