Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Reportedly Heading To Canada For Honeymoon
The destination for the royal couple's honeymoon has been revealed. It's now known where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will celebrate their newlywed status.
Heading North
The location for their honeymoon vacation has been kept tightly under wraps for the past few weeks, with everywhere from Africa to Ireland floated as a possibility for the newly anointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
According to TMZ, the royals are headed north of the border for their romantic holiday, to a spot with a royal reputation of its own.
Prince Harry and Markle are headed to Alberta, Canada. Or, more accurately, to the picturesque Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, for their post-wedding getaway.
Rather than some rink-dink cabin like normal folks, however, they'll be staying at the 6,000 sq. ft. Outlook Cabin, otherwise known as the Royal Retreat.
Their arrival date is not yet known, but both British and Canadian security will be on hand to keep them safe once they do.
The Ideal Location
The spot is considered a Canadian paradise, tucked away from civilization in the middle of Jasper National Park. It also has a lengthy history of both famous and royal guests.
Back in 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth stayed in the luxurious 6-bedroom cabin.
Likewise, the current Queen and Prince Philip visited in June 2005. Celeb guests include Sir Anthony Hopkins, John Travolta, and Bill Gates.
It's also where the 1954 film River of No Return, starring Marilyn Monroe and Robert Mitchum, was filmed.
The description of the cabin is quite awe-inspiring, and seems fit for a royal couple.
"Supreme comfort is present in every detail of the sumptuously comfortable bedrooms, enclosed verandas and majestic stone fireplace that warms both the dining room and great room -- the perfect place to ... celebrate a special occasion," reads the website.
Making Their Markle
Prince Harry and Markle got hitched on May 19 at St. George's Chapel, at Windsor Castle. The royal wedding was watched by over 29 million people worldwide.
Their original plan was to head for Namibia, in Africa, where both Harry and Markle have roots. However, security concerns forced them to choose an alternative destination.
Prince Harry has frequently described Africa as a second home. It's also where he and his now-wife shared their first-ever vacation together as a couple.
Canada is significant to the couple, too. Former Suits star Markle lived in Toronto for seven years while filming the hit legal drama. The pair also made their first official public appearance together at the 2017 Invictus Games there.
