On Friday Dwight Howard announced he will be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers and moving to Texas to play for the Houston Rockets.

After informing his possible choice teams of his decision, Howard took to Twitter to inform his fans of his new allegiance.

"I've decided to become a member of the Houston Rockets," Howard tweeted after changing his avatar to a picture of him in his new uniform. "I feel it's the best place for me and I am excited about joining the Rockets and I'm looking forward to a great season. I want to thank the fans in Los Angeles and wish them the best."

However, Howard will be losing money by switching teams, according to ESPN. With a five-year deal with the Lakers, the 27-year-old athlete would have made $118 million but by deciding to go with the Rockets, Howard will receive a four-year deal worth $88 million.

"We have been informed of Dwight's decision to not return to the Lakers. Naturally we're disappointed," said Lakers' general manager Mitch Kupchak, according to USA Today. "However, we will now move forward in a different direction with the future of the franchise and, as always, will do our best to build the best team possible, one our great Lakers fans will be proud to support. To Dwight, we thank him for his time and consideration, and for his efforts with us last season. We wish him the best of luck on the remainder of his NBA career."

Howard will sign a contract on Wednesday.
