Phil Jackson Twitter, Dwight Howard Left 'Distaste" with Los Angeles Lakers
The Laker's Kobe Bryant and Paul Gasol used social media to showcase their distaste for Dwight Howard's decision to join the Houston Rockets, and now former Los Angeles coach Phil Jackson has taken to Twitter to share his opinion about the big man's decision.
"Reflection on DHoward's exodus. He left a distaste in Lakerland The Lakers will be fine. Pau fits MDA's style of Off-it was about the future," Jackson tweeted yesterday.
Despite the strained relationship between Jackson and the Lakers recently--the Lakers hired Mike D'antoni after firing Mike Brown, despite the legendary coach's interest in the job--his tweet seems to take the franchise's side, even though Howard requested the Lakers' hire Jackson early in the 2012-13 season.
In a second tweet, Jackson even poked fun at Howard's choice to play with the Houston Rockets.
"What DH brings to the game is power and D. This past year didn't show due it to rehab and confusion. If he is better of an Astro, so be it," Jackson wrote, intentionally referring to the Houston Rockets as the Astros, the city's major league baseball team.
Jackson also addressed reports that suggested he was part of the meeting in which the Laker's made their pitch to Howard to re-sign with the franchise. The 11-time NBA champion said he made himself available but Howard never reached out to him.
"Error in reporting about my involvement with @DwightHoward meeting. I was amenable to talking with DH, but the meet never came to play," Jackson wrote on July 4.
Jackson's voice was badly needed, judging by reports that claim Kobe Bryant's speech to Howard was a major "turn off" for the big man.
"You need to learn how it's done first, and I can teach you here," Kobe reportedly said during a nearly two-hour meeting with Howard. "I know how to do it, and I've learned from the best - players who have won multiple times over and over."
