'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Electro, Jamie Foxx Villain PHOTO & VIDEO
Jamie Foxx will play his first role as a comic book character in the upcoming sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and pictures of his blue-toned character Electro hit the web this week.
The Oscar-winning actor will join Andrew Garfield, Paul Giamatti and Emma Stone in the rebooted version of Spider-Man's silver screen adventures. Electro is one of Spider-Man's most formidable adversaries. The villain is powered by electricity after an industrial accident transforms him from a nerdy Max Dillon to the terrorizing antihero.
Foxx appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on June 12 and revealed that his sister helped him create his geeky look for Dillon's character.
"My sister is my hair stylist and she created the Django look," he said. "I told her that, when I'm the nerd guy, I want to be the first black man with a comb-over. I told her, 'Make me look like I would look if I never made it.' "
Foxx also discussed Electro's costume design and debuted the villain's distinctive voice on the show.
This week's issue of Entertainment Weekly will feature both Garfield and Foxx on the cover dressed as their respective characters. The magazine also visited the set of the movie and spoke with the film's director, Marc Webb, about his experiences overseeing both installments of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise.
"With the first one I felt it was important to retell that origin story," Webb said. "But that was kind of brutal because people were so familiar with it. Now that the origin story is done, we're off to the races. It's incredibly liberating."
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated for a May 2, 2014 release. The sequel features returning cast members Martin Sheen, and Sally Field, and will also star Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn and Felicity Jones.
