George Zimmerman Trial & Case Update: Black Juror Cut for Being a Fox News Viewer? [VIDEO]
The jury involved in the George Zimmerman case is facing heavy scrutiny following his acquittal and recently, CNN claimed a potential black juror was cut from the case because the person was "a Fox News watcher."
The jury for Zimmerman's second-degree murder case comprised of six women. Five of the women were white and the other Hispanic. Pundits and members of the public alike have questioned the racial makeup of the jurors, pointing out its omission of a person of African American descent.
"Do Trayvon Martin's parents, you think, I mean, when they look at the jury makeup and they look at the decision that jury came to, do they say, 'Why didn't we have an African-American on the jury? Why did we have six white women?' " asked CNN anchor Carol Costello on Tuesday.
The station's legal analyst, Mark Nejame, explained that the racial composition of the jury represented the ethnic makeup of Seminole County, where the Zimmerman trial took place.
"Although, if I remember correctly one of the prosecutors struck a black, a potential black juror from the jury," Costello said in response to Nejame's claim.
Political director of the website TheGlobalGrind.com, Michael Skolnick, chimed in on the discussion and said the potential black juror was a "Fox News watcher," which wasn't viewed favorably by the prosecution.
The only juror from the trial to address the public, juror B37, said race didn't play a role in the decision to acquit Zimmerman. The juror made the statement when she appeared on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday.
