Tax-free weekend is slated to begin August 2 at midnight, ending at midnight on August 4 and will be put into place in 21 states.

The highly anticipated weekend for retailers will allow consumers to buy specific items without paying extra dollars of sales tax.

Each state has different rules and regulations. However, the tax exemption will primarily include back-to-school supplies. School supplies and clothing with a sales price of $100 or less per item are included in the tax-free weekend. Hundreds of items will also be tax exempt, including bedding, computers, clothing and shoes.

Reports indicated that retailers have the best deals on laptops. In Missouri, a $1,499 MacBook Pro would total to $1,562, including sales tax, but once the state's 4.225% sales tax is deducted, the same laptop would be $63 cheaper.

Currently, the below states are set to participate in tax-free weekend, but a tax reform package is on the verge of eliminating the tax-free weekend in North Carolina. Last year, The Department of Revenue reported that North Carolina lost over $13 million in revenue during the weekend.

The sales tax holiday began in 1997 and were put into place by states to assits residents in saving money and boost business by encouraging taxpayers to shop for school supplies within their own state. Some states soon started to remove the weekend.
