Tom Hiddleston Loki 'Thor 2' Costume & VIDEO of Comic-Con 2013 San Diego Panel and Appearance
Perhaps one of the biggest surprises at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con Festival was Tom Hiddleston dressing up as his Thor character, Loki.
He revealed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times how the surprise came to be and how he pulled the "top-secret stealth mission" off. Two and a half weeks before the event, Marvel's movie chief Kevin Feige reached out to Hiddleston with the idea.
"He sort of said, 'How about you just come in character and you don't break character at all and you introduce the footage? Give a whole kind of encore to the two films?' " Hiddleston revealed.
While the actor was "excited" for the idea, he was also worried it would break "the integrity of the character." Instead, the 32-year-old actor came up with his own dialogue.
"Here you are...Your ears yearn for untold stories.Your eyes crave unseen sights. Your imaginations ache and hunger. Where are your Avengers now?" the Norse god told the surprised crowd.
Hall H, which also held the X-Men: Days of Future Past panel, was filled with over 6,000 screaming fans. Hiddleston said about the crowd, "When I walked out onstage, I was confronted with a wall of sound and fury, to quote the bard. It was extraordinary. I couldn't see, I couldn't hear for the first five seconds."
Hiddleston made his way from London to San Diego for the convention dressed up as Jango Fett from the Star Wars franchise, since the English actor didn't want to be noticed and it was the only costume that fit his tall figure.
"I really wanted it to be a surprise, and that's the hardest thing in our world now is to keep something so secret that it's actually a surprise," he said.
It was such a surprise that "nobody else knew about it," including his Thor co-star Chris Hemsworth. After making the audience repeat his character's name, Hiddleston said, "It seems I have an army," and then showed an exclusive clip to The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
"It was fun. It was absolutely amazing...To go out there in costume, adrenaline was coursing through my body in a way that I haven't had in a while," he added.
