Yankees Trade Rumors 2013: New York Close To Acquiring Alfonso Soriano From Cubs? MLB News
In dire need of another bat for their offense depleted lineup, the New York Yankees are reportedly on the verge of bringing back Alfonso Soriano from the Chicago Cubs.
According to the New York Post, the Bombers would be responsible for a little over $6 million of the salary remaining on Soriano's current contract for both the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Cubs picking up the rest of the tab.
While no details have yet to come out on just who New York would part with to the Cubs in return, a source of the site stated that it would more than likely be a minor league prospect of mid-level calibur.
Soriano currently holds a no-trade clause that he would reportedly be willing to waive in order to reunite with his first MLB team, whom he hasn't played for since 2003.
In 91 games for Chicago during this season, Soriano is hitting .259 with 17 home runs and 51 runs batted in.
If he is indeed obtained by the Yankees, Vernon Wells would most likely go back to either a DH or platoon role. Nonetheless, the situation could get even more complicated when Curtis Granderson returns to the lineup in August.
