New York Knicks Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Offers Weak Denial of Move to Lakers in 2014 [VIDEO]
In a video captured by a TMZ reporter, Knicks star Carmelo Anthony said he don't foresee a stint with the Lakers or the Heat in his future.
The question that prompted Anthony's response arose from several reports, which claimed the Los Angeles Lakers plan to pursue last season's leading scorer when he becomes a free agent in 2014. Asked whether he could see himself in "purple and gold" (Lakers' uniform colors), Anthony had a somewhat tentative response.
"I doubt it," Anthony told the TMZ videographer. "I got a pair of purple-and-gold Jordan's though. I don't think you should read between the lines. It's not good to read between the lines."
Knicks fans would probably appreciate a more direct answer, such as "no" or "I'm definitely staying in New York." And when the reporter hinted at a pairing with the Miami Heat's LeBron James, Anthony offered another measured response.
"I don't have them conversations," Anthony said in regards to whether he's talked to James about forming a "super team."
ESPN learned from sources in the Lakers' front office that the franchise is pondering the feasibility of acquiring Anthony and James in 2014. James can also choose to become a free agent at the end of next season. Los Angeles' executives are split over their chances of landing either player, but nonetheless, the team is preparing to take their best shot at both superstars, in hopes of signing at least one.
Anthony will probably be searching for his first title at the end of next season, unless the Knicks overachieve beyond everyone's expectations, and therefore will be an easier target than James, who could be coming off a potential three-peat in Miami.
"It's all wishful thinking at this point," a league source told ESPN.
